Farming in Ladakh is uniquely challenging — short growing seasons of 100–130 days, extreme cold winters, and high altitude (3,000–5,000 metres). This scheme provides highly subsidized inputs specially adapted for high-altitude cold desert farming including solar dryers, polyhouses, cold-hardy seed varieties, and water harvesting support for glacial stream irrigation.
