Mizoram's flagship scheme to end jhum (shifting) cultivation and establish permanent sustainable farming for all farm families.

The New Land Use Policy (NLUP) is Mizoram government's most ambitious welfare scheme, aimed at ending the practice of jhum (shifting) cultivation which was environmentally destructive and economically unsustainable. NLUP provides comprehensive support to farm families to transition to permanent sustainable cultivation of crops, horticulture, animal husbandry, or sericulture.

The scheme covers โ‚น1 lakh per family over 5 years in the form of cash, inputs, and training, with each family choosing from a menu of options suited to their land and skills.
