The Prime Minister's Scholarship Scheme (PMSS) was launched in 2006 to encourage technical and post-graduate education among wards and widows of ex-servicemen and ex-coast guard personnel.
Under the scheme, 55,000 scholarships are awarded every year — 25,000 to wards/widows of Army personnel, 5,500 to Navy, 4,500 to Air Force, 1,000 to RPF/RPSF, and 19,000 to Coast Guard personnel.
The scholarship rate is ₹3,000/month for girls and ₹2,500/month for boys for a maximum duration of 5 years.
