SSC CGL 2026 is one of the most coveted government exams in India, offering admission to Group B and Group C posts across various central government ministries and departments. With over 17,000 vacancies and lakhs of applicants each year, cracking it requires a smart, structured approach.

Understanding the Exam Pattern

SSC CGL is conducted in two tiers:

  • Tier 1 (CBT): 100 questions, 200 marks, 60 minutes. Covers General Intelligence, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude and English.
  • Tier 2 (CBT): Three papers โ€” Mathematical Abilities (90 min), Reasoning & General Intelligence (45 min), English Language & Comprehension (45 min). Plus Module-I and Module-II tests for specific posts.

Subject-wise Preparation Strategy

Quantitative Aptitude

This is often the deciding factor. Focus on: Number System, Simplification, Percentages, Profit & Loss, Time & Work, Time & Distance, Geometry, Trigonometry, and Data Interpretation. Practice from Rakesh Yadav's book and previous year papers.

General Intelligence & Reasoning

This section is highly scoring. Cover: Analogy, Series, Coding-Decoding, Blood Relations, Syllogism, Venn Diagrams, Non-Verbal Reasoning. Daily practice of 30-40 questions is key.

English Language

Focus on: Reading Comprehension, Error Spotting, Fill in the Blanks, Synonyms & Antonyms, Idioms & Phrases, and One Word Substitution. Read The Hindu or Indian Express daily.

General Awareness

Current Affairs (last 6 months), History, Geography, Polity, Economics, Science and Static GK. Read monthly current affairs magazines.

6-Month Study Plan

Month 1-2: Build foundation in all subjects. Complete NCERT books for GK subjects.

Month 3-4: Practice 100+ questions daily. Start previous year paper solving.

Month 5: Mock tests 3-4 times per week. Identify and strengthen weak areas.

Month 6: Full mock tests daily. Revise notes. Focus on accuracy and speed.

  • Solve at least 3,000 previous year questions before the exam
  • Maintain accuracy over speed initially
  • Take sectional tests before attempting full mocks
